Summer activities for families living near Orangevale

July 12, 20213 min read

With the weather getting warmer and sunnier, now is the perfect time to plan your summer vacation with your family. However, it might be a bit tricky to find a place that caters to everyone’s whims, so we curated this list of activities (and the corresponding destinations) that kids and kids at heart will surely love.

Summer activities that are ideal for families living near Orangevale

1) Horse-back riding

If you’re looking for a family-friendly activity that can improve your balance, physical strength, and even cardio–without feeling that you’re doing a boring, monotonous workout–you may want to consider taking a horseback riding lesson in Five Oak Farms

This farm does not just serve as a training center for competition riders and hobbyists; it also provides a full-service boarding facility for guests and their horses that can stay in one of its barns’ 25 stalls.

During summer, the farm offers horsemanship day camp for children between 6 and 13 years old who will learn about proper riding, trail riding, barn management, basic horse health care and grooming, and horse show preparation.

The summer camp, which typically lasts 4-5 days, also includes horse-related art projects.

2) Swimming

Summer is the perfect time to learn a critical life skill: swimming.

Why not enroll your child in one of Boost Swim School’s summer classes to help them learn an important skill?

If there is a toddler in your family, you may want to check out their “parent-tot” program, a swimming program for parents and kids as young as 4 months. The goal is to help young swimmers feel comfortable in the water through fun games and songs. Once the child graduates from this program, they can proceed to the “learn to swim” class.

They also offer group and private swimming lessons for young children and adults who want to learn competitive strokes or water-safe practices.

3) Visit a community park

Orangevale Park has lots of open fields (two softball fields, multi-use fields, and a full-size soccer field) that are ideal for ball games, frisbee, picnics, kite flying, or simply lounging around. The community park also features paved trails where small kids can ride their bikes.

As a family-friendly park, it also has playgrounds, a horse stadium, shade trees, and a covered patio perfect for birthday parties and other small gatherings

The park also houses a community center with meeting rooms and classrooms, a third-of-a-mile-long walking trail, an activity building with covered picnic tables, and a zero-entry swimming pool.

Its zero-entry swimming pool features a gradual slope into the water (rather than steps or stairs), making it ideal for small children, seniors, and anyone with mobility issues. There are also water slides and shaded picnic tables, both great for birthday parties.

You can reserve the pool area for private use before or after business hours or the two private rooms during public use hours.

Meanwhile, the community park still has 3 acres of undeveloped land that will be turned into multi-use trails, a library, and other recreational amenities.

For those living in mobile home parks in Citrus Heights, CA, this park is just a short drive away, offering a perfect spot for outdoor activities and family fun.

4) Water sports

Sac State Aquatic Center is arguably one of California’s best water sports facilities with its extensive equipment rentals and water sports classes (group and individual), including sailing, paddling, rowing, windsurfing, boating, wakeboarding and water skiing, and jet skiing.

The aquatic center also has meeting rooms and beach area reservations perfect for birthday parties and other family gatherings.

We hope that this list of summer activities and destinations can inspire your family to break away from your usual routine, allowing you to build lifelong memories and experiences with your kids.
